In 2006, the Association of Adult Literacy Professional Developers identified three key priorities for the organization upon which to focus its efforts, and to build a multi-year strategic plan to accomplish those priorities. The AALPD membership voted on options and the top three options with the most votes became the AALPD Priorities.

Priority #1: Develop quality standards for professional development

Priority #2: Develop a web-based resource of research in professional development

Priority #3: Advocate for funding for professional development

Three working groups have been established to address each of these three priority areas. Each group has developed objectives, action steps, and specific ways members can become involved to achieve its goal.
